How do I list an unspecified charity in my Will?

Giving to a definition (as compared to giving to a named organisation) runs the risk of disputes arising from differing opinions on what the definition entails.

Listing using broad categories can have serious downsides as they may still be ambiguous, overlap with other categories, and is often more prone to mistakes. Listing the organization specifically is still the preferred approach as it adds clarity, makes future updates easier, and helps prevent unintentional errors.

Similarly, both CPF and insurance nominations are not made to unspecified person / groups of people, rather you will need to list them down individually.

Wills

Under the Appoint People Tab, add a new person and key in the following:

Full Name

My Executor(s)’ discretion of my preferred choice of charity

Relationship

Others

Example - Allocate it as Residual Assets

Testamentary Trusts

If the payout is in a testamentary trust (which is managed by the trustee), you should use this instead:

Full Name

My Trustee(s)’ discretion of my preferred choice of charity

Relationship

Others

Example - Allocate it as Remainder Beneficiary

You can also narrow it down further if you have a specific type of charity you would want to give to.

Examples:

My Executor(s)' discretion of my preferred choice of charity for children
